Ook zachtheid vereist training en lenigheid. Hoe geef je dat vorm als je onderweg gedwongen verhard bent geraakt?
In Paradise Circus Now zien we zeven vluchtende personages dwalend in een woestijn. Opgejaagd door een verleden dat ze achtervolgt. De laatste die zich aansluit bij de groep is een jonge vrouw die naar Nederland is gevlucht, weg van geweld. Als een nieuwe en eigenzinnige familie trekken ze rond, in een voorstelling waarin gezongen, gedanst, gesproken en gespeeld wordt. Met hun torenhoge ambities gaan ze gegarandeerd vallen, maar ze zijn lenig. Ze slaan het stof van zich af en trekken verder van stad naar stad.
Paradise Circus Now is een poëtische, scherpe en onvoorspelbare show vol verbeelding, in een arena die ruimte biedt aan strijdbare powersongs en gefluisterde balanceeracts. Steeds opnieuw die arena betreden is een sprong in het diepe, waarbij het publiek soms als vangnet dient.
Regisseur Hendrik Aerts werkt voor deze productie samen met een breed artistiek team en met zeven aanstormende performers, die allemaal nieuwsgierig zijn naar de synergie van verschillende kunstdisciplines en werken in co-creatie. Met een nieuwe tekst van Maxine Palit de Jongh.
De voorstelling wordt in verschillende talen gesproken en is voorzien van boventitels. Language no problem.
TOUR 2024
Paradise Circus Now wordt gecreëerd tijdens 8 verschillende residenties in theater- en productiehuizen door heel Nederland. Elke residentieweek wordt afgesloten met een 'Open Space' presentatie, waarbij het publiek wordt uitgenodigd om diep in de arena te duiken en nieuwe scènes te beleven die in de dagen ervoor zijn ontstaan.
Op donderdag 25 april 2024 gaat Paradise Circus Now in première in Zaal 3 van Het Nationale Theater in Den Haag, gevolgd door een extra voorstelling op vrijdag 26 april.

Even mildness requires training and flexibility. How do you manage that when you’ve become hardened along the way?
In Paradise Circus Now, seven characters are wandering in a desert. They all ran away from a past that haunts them. The last to join the group is a young woman who fled to the Netherlands, away from violence. Together they travel around like a new and unconventional family, in a show that involves songs, music, dance and theatrical acts. With their towering ambitions, the performers are bound to stumble, but the group is nimble. They brush off the dust, grab a new costume, and move on from one city to the next.
Paradise Circus Now is a poetic, sharp, and unpredictable show full of imagination, in an arena of powerful songs and softly whispered balancing acts. Entering that arena again and again is a leap into the unknown, with the audience sometimes serving as a safety net.
Director Hendrik Aerts collaborates with a broad artistic team and with seven emerging performers, all curious about the synergy of different art disciplines and a process of co-creation. With a new text by Maxine Palit de Jongh.
The performance is spoken in various languages and is provided with subtitles. Language no problem.
TOUR 2024
Paradise Circus Now is created during 8 different residencies in theaters and production houses throughout the Netherlands. Each residency week concludes with an 'Open Space' presentation, inviting the audience to step into the arena and experience newly made scenes that were created in the preceding days.
On Thursday 25 April 2024, Paradise Circus Now will premiere at Het Nationale Theater, Zaal 3 in The Hague, followed by an extra show on Friday 26 April.
